Elkin was a minor character in Saving Private Ryan. He was a young soldier in the United States Army during World War Two.

Biography[]

Elkin's was a young Ranger, who landed at Dog Green sector along with the rest of Charlie Company, commanded by John Miller.

He landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day of June 6th,1944 as part of Operation Overlord. Elkin was positioned at the very front of the landing craft, on the port side. Elkin was hit sometime after the ramp dropped ( off screen) by a burst of MG42 fire. Elkin struggled towards the sand, where it became evident that he was mortally wounded. The machine gun fire hit him in his lower abdomen, and upper groin area, disemboweling him. His intestines and other internal organs spilled from his abdomen. He struggled to hold his intestines inside his body, but they spilled onto the ground next to him.

As Captain Miller and the surviving Rangers and 29th infantry moved up the beach between the obstacles, distant cries for "Mama!" can be heard, before Miller staggers to the ground next to the dying soldier. Elkin notices Miller fall next to him, only to continue to writhe in pain and scream for his mother, before letting out a blood curdling scream.

Elkin is in the center of this shot. Just after miller tells his men that if they don't keep moving, they will die.

Elkin was left behind as Miller continued up the beach, most likely because his wounds were deemed too severe. Elkin died shortly after.
